Escape Winter - Eat a Mango!
Even though it is still winter and most of us are still weathering the chilling temperatures, our psyche is pretty much done with the cold. We long for or fantasize about being in a nice warm tropical paradise. Unfortunately, just picking up and heading for the islands won’t be the fate for most of us. Still, there is an opportunity for escape. If you can’t actually visit paradise, then at least eat like you are there. For this escape there is nothing better than a delicious mango.
Mangoes are the most popular fruit eaten worldwide, and with good reason. They are delicious when eaten by themselves, but are also very versatile and do nicely with other foods. They are great in smoothies, added to vegetable dishes, in salsas or as sauces on meat and vegetable dishes.
Mangoes are a member of the acclaimed “yellow and orange fruit and vegetables” grouping known to contain antioxidants such as vitamin C and two classes of phytochemicals, carotenoids and bioflavonoids, which scientists believe have great health-promoting potential. And of course, mangoes are a wonderful source of vitamin A.
Getting a little bored with winter? Eat a mango, but be ready, they can de delightfully messy.
